Geyser

So it is midnight in Iceland. Everyone crashed around 4 pm. We just went outside and you could read a book it was so bright.

When we arrived in Iceland, we picked up our rental car at the airport and drove south along the coast towards Selfoss. We made many stops along the way including a visit to Strokkur (Icelandic for "churn") which is a fountain geyser located in a geothermal area beside the Hvítá River.

We had a crazy good day today and are now ready for bed.

Over Greenland

It has been a great flight so far.  All of us have managed to get some sleep.

We were just cruising above Greenland and the mountains were showing through the cloud layer. 

I think we had at most 1 hour of darkness on the flight.

Inaugural Flight 804

We are on the inaugural flight 804 out of YUL.  Icelandair has organized a party for all of the passengers complete with a photo op with a Mountie.

Almost ready...

With a 13 hour time difference between Ottawa and Japan, I tried to immediately jump into the Western European Time Zone, which is 4 hours ahead of Ottawa. Getting over jet lag was harder than I expected.

Our flight leaves at 9pm local time and we arrive in Iceland at 6 am local, after a 5 hour flight. We are going to be chasing the sun as we fly north.  It should be just getting dark when we leave Montreal and sunrise in Reykjavik is at 4am local.  Iceland receives about 19 hours of sunlight this time of year.

We are more or less packed.

T Minus 24 hrs

Boys completed first round of packing.

One of the things that the boys asked me to bring back from Japan were crazy Japanese candy kits made by Kracie.  The kits only contain packaged powder - you need to mix the powder with water and then form and cut the various components.  Packing complete, they tried the hamburger and fries kit this afternoon

The finished product - the cheese was somewhat mangled but these tasted much better than expected.

The  Icelandic Weather Forecast looks great for our arrival on Friday.  Mainly sunny with a high of 8 C.
